Interview with:Alicia Butler [abutler]
HEALTH
What is your specialty? What does your work consist of? I own my own Health and Wellness business through It Works.
Can you provide a link to a site where we can get to know more about you or the activity you carry out? Absolutely. You can view my website www.WorkMyWrap.com or you can find me on facebook.com/ItWorksByAlicia
What types of clients do you have? Why do they come to you and what can you offer them? We serve all kinds of people. Our Ultimate Body Applicator aka the Skinny Wrap is the main thing that pulls people in. Our wraps help tone, tighten, and firm in as little as 45 minutes. But once they get here, they stay to work on all their health and wellness goals.
What is your definition of health, and of a healthy life? For me health is about total overall fitness inside and out. It's not about being thin. It's about being living a healthy, active lifestyle by making better choices in food and other substances that we put in our bodies.
What are some basic rules for those who want to live to be 100. Portion control and staying active.
Happiness and health: how much do they have in common, and how much myth is there in their relationship? Simply put, healthy people are happy people. If you are living a healthy lifestyle you are feeling good and when you feel good it shows!
Can the mind cause or cure illness? What evidence do you have on the matter? As a Psychology Major who specialized in mindfulness research I could talk about this one forever, but because I don't want to confuse anyone I'll keep it simple. Yes. Your thoughts directly affect your immune system. The more positive your thoughts, the stronger your immune system will be.
Do you recommend Vitamins and nutritional supplements? Do you believe their benefits have been proven? Absolutely! A large portion of my business is in vitamins and supplements and I know that I feel much better when I'm on them than when I wasn't!
Obesity, insomnia, and depression, are epidemic. What does that say about our way of life? What must be changed at the social level? Honestly, people are too busy these days. We don't value our health and wellness enough because we are so bogged down by the stress of our everyday lives. We eat on the run and it's mostly junk because we feel like we don't have another choice. But the truth is we do. Our bodies truly are the result of what we put in to them so it's time to choose better snacks. Pack fruits and veggies to snack on at work and skip the vending machines, limit yourself to one cup of coffee a day, take the stairs instead of the elevator, park at the back of the parking lot...there are lots of little things you can do to get healthier and these small steps will add up.
Is the best preventive medicine teaching someone how to live? Yes! A healthy active lifestyle will change so many things for so many people.
What are the most frequent errors of slimming diets. It is right there in the question. They are diets. The minute we say we're going on a diet we are setting ourselves up for failure. We should be striving for a lifestyle change. Once you make it about changing your lifestyle then you are making a commit to yourself forever.
What areas of health or of medicine are you most interested in devoting yourself to in the next few years? I'll always be devoted to mental health and I'm extremely interested in naturalistic medicine.
Would you change your profession for any another? No, I love being my own business owner with It Works. If I had to describe my career in three words those words would be freedom, fun, and friendship!
