Interview with:

Lizzie Norris [adustyframe]

CREATIVITY
How and why did you begin to be creative?
My mom always worked on something and let us use her supplies. I've been creating things and looking for ideas since I was a small girl.
Your mind is your work tool. How do you take care of it?
I rest. I fill it with great books. I research ideas. I think about things and wonder how I could do it better or differently.
How do you avoid repeating yourself, or falling into formula? How do you stay fresh?
I try new things--new colors, new patterns, new music, new books.
Do you have a ritual like retiring to a lonely place from time to time to cleanse your mind?
Playing the piano, reading a book, knitting, praying--all these help renew my mind.
Who have your teachers been?
My mom. My sisters. My child.
It is possible to fall in love with a bad idea simply because it is yours. How do you avoid this?
It definitely is possible to not see faults or flaws in something just because I dreamed it up. I ask friends and family their opinions and then I listen.
What criteria do you use when selecting someone to be a part of your creative team?
They need to be willing to try new ideas and take direction.
The armchair psychologist: Is creativity an act of rebellion for you?
No. I don't have a rebellious bone in my body!
Do you work well under pressure?
No.
What do you feel when, after two or three years, you see an idea of yours again?
Sometimes it feels like an old friend. Sometimes it feels like a bad dream--what was I thinking!
PHOTOGRAPHY
For how long have you done photography? How did you begin?
I've been seriously learning for about 2 years.
What is your favourite type of photography?
Children
What do you try to express through your photography?
The moment. The little emotions and bits of the person. The moments that will never be there again, but can be remembered in a photo. Tiny baby feet. Little smiles. Smooches. Hand holding.
Canon, Nikon, Fuji, Sigma, Olympus, Sony, Pentax...which do you place your bets on and why?
I'm really happy with my Canon
MUSIC
What do you do? What is your musical specialty?
I play the piano.
Do you work alone or in a group? If in a group, who are the others you work with?
alone
What was your musical education?
I began piano lessons when I was 4 years old. I studied music in college with a major in piano pedagogy but I dropped it. I was paying my own way through school and music is a tough major!
How often do you practice?
I'm playing for a youth choir now, so every day.
How do you feel right before going out on stage?
Interestingly enough, I'm never nervous before I play. After I play, my hands shake and my face flushes. It's as if I get nervous afterward.
List three songs that are key to your life.
Great is Thy Faithfulness Amazing Grace Ain't God Good
ENTREPRENEUR
Is there a website, blog or social media link where we can see more about your project and/or yourself?
http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5067922
How did the entrepreneurial spirit rise up in you? Were you exposed to entrepreneurship in your family or your social environment when you were a child?
My parents always encouraged us in our ideas. I sold Olympic Greeting Cards, Current, homemade bookmarks, etc.
What have you achieved up to now? What have you yet to achieve?
I owned a store that I completely created from the ground up. I operated it for 5 years but other circumstances in my life became too much and I needed to close the store for my sanity. Yet to achieve? That's hard to say. Right now, I aim to raise a godly intelligent young man and need to focus my efforts on child rearing and homeschooling.
Do you have employees or people that you outsource tasks to? What do they do?
I did when I had a store. Now I'm all alone.
Entrepreneurs have a reputation as "control freaks." How do you avoid that?
It's so hard to let go of the "baby". No one cares about the business like the owner do they? When I owned the store, I simply had to let go of things and let the employees take over. One person just can't do it all!
