What is your specialty? What does your work consist of? Low calorie cooking
COOKING
When did you start cooking? Who got you started in this art? I started as a teen.
Why did you decide to pursue a career in food? I have cooked all my life but only recently have I started blogging, about 2 years ago. And just recently I published 4 eBooks and an iPhone App.
Is there a website or blog where we can see something about you and your cooking? You can see it all at http://400caloriesorless.com
What culinary training have you received? Where have you learned more, in class or by experimenting? I have no formal training - my training consisted of growing up in an Italian kitchen watching and helping my Mom and Grandma. And then I was fortunate to live next door to a professional cook who taught me more of the technical aspects. From there, I have perfected my cooking by practicing daily - - I am one of the rare few who still cooks a home made hot meal (often 2 a day) every day.
How would you define your style? I cook healthy meals - I lower the calories but don't sacrifice flavor. Comfort food meals at less than 400 calories - that is what I do best :)
Do you select and buy the ingredients yourself? Where? I select them all myself
What is your favorite spice to cook with and why? Garlic - - I'm Italian ;)
| What is your signature dish or your favorite recipe? Authentic Lasagna. It's actually in the oven right now !

If you were stranded on a deserted island for one year, what dish would ask to eat after your rescue? Spaghetti and Meatballs, for sure!
If any chef in the world could prepare a meal for you, who would it be? Anthony Bourdain. I love him :)
Is there something you hate to see when you go to a restaurant as a customer? I hate to see uninspired dishes.
Do you sometimes find yourself eating junk-food? Sure - there's nothing like an Oreo cookie
Who cooks in your home? Just me!
What tendencies do you see coming on strong? I see more people choosing healthy options - but the options have to be there to choose!
What are some of your professional goals for the future? I would love to publish a print cookbook - my eBooks are great, but I'd love to be in a book store and see my recipes up on the shelf!
What would you say to a novice in the kitchen to help them get over their fear of cooking? Just roll up your sleeves and do it! You can't learn without doing.
BLOGGING
| What is your blog address? What subjects do you deal with? I have a food blog
http://400caloriesorless.com |
What was it that made you create your blog? On what date did you start it? I decided I wanted to share all my healthy recipes with all the people out there trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle. My dishes are not for a diet - they are dishes that you can eat the rest of your life and not feel like you are dieting. But they are healthy and low cal.
What blogging system have you adopted and why? Word Press - it's just the most supported, it's the standard :)
How many visits a day do you get? What type of comments do you receive? Thousands of visitors :) I receive the best comments - people just love trying the recipes and are so happy to have found them on my site.
How has 'having a blog' contributed to your life? I am busier than can be. Blogging is a side thing, not my main job so I am very busy fitting it all in. Sometimes I imagine what I could do with it if I could devote all my time to it - ahhhhh :)
How often do you post? Does regular posting of your blog require a lot of effort on your part? At least once a day
How do you promote your blog? I have mostly search engine traffic - everyone is looking for low cal recipes!
How would you define your readers? Have you got a faithful audience? I love my readers. I love that they are foodies and that they take the time to write and ask questions. This is all about sharing for me - so I love the interaction.
What advice would you give to someone who wishes to begin a blog? It's really easy to do - don't let a little technology scare you away. Have someone who has done it show you, and you'll be a pro in no time.
