How did you begin making music? Who introduced you?
I started drumming on everything I could find at age 3. By age 7 I was drumming on trashcans while listening to the Smashing Pumpkins albums. I would recruit anybody I could give a fake instrument to. By age 9 I had talked my mom into getting me a real drum set. After a trip to Woodstock 99 I begged my mom to find a rockband for me to be part of. She did. The lead singer was 22 years old. At almost age 10, I was a drummer in my first real band.
What was your musical education?
I am self taught on guitar/bass guitar/and piano. However, I did have 2 months worth of lessons on the drums when I was 9 years old. I took music classes in high school and college. I started learning Cubase and recording local bands when I was 15. Mostly, as far as instruments are concerned, a lot of experimenting and practice.
When did you realise that making music could be a way of life for you?
My whole life has been about music. I'm not sure what else I can do. I can't even imagine a life without music. Alot of my music would be great as themes for movies and other songs have a pop element to them. If I were to pick a genre it would be shoegaze/dreampop/alt but not all of the songs fall into categories. Music is who I am.
What is your creative process?
I don't really have one, I just start messing around on the guitar or piano and a song might just come to me and I will start singing to it. Once I have a song that I enjoy I decide whether I want to record it or not. I also decide what it should be used for whether it is good to be a theme for movies/tv or if it is going to be a song.
When do you have your most lucid moments, in the morning or night?
It doesn't really make a difference, it just depends on how I am feeling at the moment.
Have you ever awoken with a melody created from your dreams?
How do you know when a song is finished or needs no more changes?
I just know or I don't. Sometimes it takes me a very long time to finish a song and sometimes it takes me a day. It really just depends on the song.
How did you discover your creative territory? How would you describe it?
I always loved music since I was 7 years old, I started drums at a very young age and I knew it was something I really enjoyed.
What part of your job is your least favourite?
Playing shows if no one is there.
How often do you practice?
Whenever I feel like it.
How do you feel right before going out on stage?
It depends how many people are there, if there is no one there I really don't give a shit. If there are a lot of people there to see me I imagine i would be very excited and happy and play my best.
Which musicians or groups have been inspiring to your career?
The Smashing Pumpkins, Slowdive, Starflyer 59, Joy Division, Rolling Stones, Velvet Underground and Nico, My Bloody Valentine, Days Away, Pedro the Lion, Bright Eyes, Underoath, Saosin (5 song early EP), to name a few I have really listened to countless bands and musicians that inspire me and that i have thorougly enjoyed.
List three songs that are key to your life.
Indiana (Starflyer), Sleep (Slowdive), The End of an Era (Hopesfall)
What should be done to stop piracy?
Nothing I like piracy because people get free music, i could have never listened to all my favorite bands without it.
What type of music do you detest?
none really i just dont enjoy rap, dubstep, justin beiber, and pretty much anything that gets so much credit and is so popular and just actually kinda sucks
What time did you get up this morning?
How do you sell yourself? What has been your experience with record companies and representatives?
i'll let my mom answer this one..... Ok this is his mom. Really Andrew? If up to Andrew I realized he would never sell anything or tell anyone about his music and I would be his only fan. He's an introvert in that way. so a year ago i started doing social media, publicity, and entering his music into contests, and submitting to dj's and blogs. Now I've made a website http://www.inspaceband.com Who knows what I'll be doing next?! I definitely have to get some more people on this team, so if you're interested email us at firstname.lastname@example.org Hey - I'm serious! By the way, my name is Ava
What other things have you done to make a living?
nothing I am a bum. Ok this is his mom again. This is sort of true - except when he is working on his music. He loves to game - any jobs for game testers out there?
Have you ever played on the street or in the subway? How much did you collect each day?
nope im too lazy to do that instead i play video games
Who would you play with, without a doubt?
Starflyer 59, Slowdive, My Bloody Valentine, Mogwai
What advice would you give to someone starting out in the business?
I dont know. Really, let me get somewhere and start making money off of my music than i will give someone advice.
