Interview with:

Bruno Mithout [animalrights4now]

POLITICS
What matters more in deciding your vote: the party, the candidate, or the ideas?
The ideas are fundamental to me, unfortunately most of the political campaigning in the US is a circus inspired by the Hollywood star system, mired by emotional manipulation and corrupted by the power of money. The campaigns should be publicly funded and the public exposed to an array of ideas from different ideologies so the voters can make rational choices.
Two-party systems are on the rise: is this good for politics?
Not necessarily, often the margin of difference between the two parties makes them hardly distinguishable. I.E. the democrats and republicans in the US embrace the same capitalist commercialist ideology.
Should any territory have the right of self-determination if a majority of the population votes in favour of doing so?
absolutely, as long as the voting occurs in peaceful conditions
Does a state have the right to attack or intervene in another country that has not attacked said state, if the country has committed grave injustices or crimes against humanity?
This is a hard question to answer because there are few countries in the world who haven't committed grave injustices against humanity at some point in their history: western countries had colonialism, communist countries had the gulags, the US was the only country to use an atomic bomb against a civilian population.... who is to be the judge?
Are we witnessing the end of the American empire?
Probably, it's part of the impermanence of all things, China is on the rise, as well as India....
Why did the economies of communist countries fail?
Because the communist countries spent too much of their energy on military expenditures; also there is in communism the theory of capitalist encirclement which is derived from the fundamental internationalist nature of communism, Communism can only succeed on a global scale, (workers of the world unite!), otherwise it becomes what it was in eastern block countries: state capitalism mixed with nationalism and a police state.
What is nationalism?
It is the assumption that a homogenious population occupies a certain territory and deserved to be preserved as such.
Do you actively or economically collaborate with any social organization, NGO, etc.?
the American Association of Pet Dog Trainers.
Do you believe in any of the conspiracy theories regarding 9-11?
No, because they are just theories!
Are there peoples more civilized than others? Or is it merely a question of cultural differences?
It is indeed a question of cultural difference, although the concept of civilization is a western european concept an therefore one could say that Europeans are more civilized than others....
Are there too many taxes?
Of course!(just a joke), this is a silly question, the relevant question is what do I get in exchange for the taxes I pay
Do you believe in affirmative action?
Yes as long as it does not generate other forms of injustice or reverse discrimination
Does globalisation help in the development of the world's poorest countries, or does it perpetuate conditions of exploitation?
It can work if carefully planned and monitored by neutral parties, instead of corporate greed.
Should a maximum limit of permissible personal fortune exist; and thereby, place limits on individual wealth?
Yes, because extreme wealth is the counterpart of extreme poverty and creates suffering for many people.
Do you defend the ecotaxes?
On a global scale, yes and as long as the revenues they produce address environmental problems.
