BLOGGING
What is your blog address? What subjects do you deal with?
diaryofaformerfoodaddict.blogspot.com My subject matter mirrors my life and my own struggles to define healthy body image, eating, dating, and just about any area of life I have going on. I also explore and showcase my love of fashion, food/cooking, and design.
What was it that made you create your blog? On what date did you start it?
When I started seeing my nutritionist Marisa Sherry, who is AMAZING she was blowing my mind with all this simple information that was having a huge impact on my weight loss success. I felt like more people should know about it and know their own struggles were not a sign of failure but improper help and resources perhaps. I started blogging in January 7th 2010.
What blogging system have you adopted and why?
I use blogspot because it's user friendly. In terms of posting frequency and so on I wing it. I aim for (2) posts per week.
How many visits a day do you get? What type of comments do you receive?
Anywhere from 250 to 1200 per day. Comments range, but I have a group of core commenters I hear from the most. Comments are awesome, they give so much insight into what people find interesting. I also get a lot of emails from people who don't want to comment but still want to interact.
How has 'having a blog' contributed to your life?
It has completely enriched it. It boosted my confidence, made me clarify where I stood on issues, brought people and support into my life I otherwise would not have. It's been a hugely positive experience.
Have you created relationships with other bloggers or readers of your blog?
Yes, more so then expected. I blogged anonymously for the first year and then out'ed myself. Really glad I did.
How often do you post? Does regular posting of your blog require a lot of effort on your part?
I try to post several times a week. Some posts are way easier then others. I think sometimes when you feel really strongly about a topic it can be harder to focus your thoughts and write about it in a compelling way which represents your opinion, is focused, and would be engaging to others.
Does blogging bring in income for you? Can one make a living from posting?
A very small income. You could make a living but that is a full time job.
How do you promote your blog?
Twitter, word of mouth, interacting with other bloggers and blogs.
How would you define your readers? Have you got a faithful audience?
My readers definitely skew female. They are an amazing group that keeps me on my toes. Smart, well informed, honest and I hugely value the amount they communicate with me and share their own selves. I would say I have a pretty faithful audience.
Are there any blogs you follow daily or regularly?
I follow a ton: http://hannahsreductions.blogspot.com/ http://www.shmittenkitten.com/ http://mysocalledstyle.blogspot.com/ http://catbirdnyc.blogspot.com/ http://www.imboycrazy.com/ http://www.blogwithbenefits.com/ http://www.running-on-healthy.com/ http://stationerynotstationary.wordpress.com/
Have you ever received gifts for blogging about your opinion of products or services? What do you think of bloggers who do that?
I have received products with a request to try it out. I am cool with it as long as you are honest. A free product does not equal a glowing review as well. If all parties are clear, upfront and honest I have no issue.
How do you see your blog evolving in the future?
Good question. I am not sure. It's evolved naturally. It's an edited version of my life and I assume it will stay that slice of it.
What advice would you give to someone who wishes to begin a blog?
Just do it! Get out there, voice your opinion, write what you are passionate about and take it seriously but most importantly do it. Don't over think it or psych yourself out. If it turns into a disaster it can be deleted, but it could end up opening up this whole world you did not know about it. It did for me.
