Interview with:Rose Blue [babegurl]
WRITING
 | What did you first read? How did you begin to write? Who were the first to read what you wrote? I began to write plays in high school. Soon after, I sang in a band for seven years and wrote my own poems and music. My first read was Beowulf and that was in college.
Later, I went into writing manuscripts.
My love my fans. I love you guys!!!! |
 | What is your favorite genre? Can you provide a link to a site where we can read some of your work or learn something about it? |
 | What is your creative process like? What happens before sitting down to write? Water. I love the free-flowing sounds of water. Somehow, that releases juices into my head and allows me to create. If I am not near a body of water, then I must have music and and no other thing or person around for distraction. |
 | What type of reading inspires you to write? Anything concerning history. |
 | What do you think are the basic ingredients of a story? The characters, synopsis and the ending. Must have a great ending. I don't care for a story that doesn't end effectively to be believable. |
 | What voice do you find most to your liking: first person or third person? The first person. |
 | What is required for a character to be believable? How do you create yours? A small part of a real person I know and then I turn them into my own.
I create from what and who I know. |
 | Are you equally good at telling stories orally? I think so. I played some charaters in the plays I wrote in high school. I can sing a story as well. (I love musicals) |
 | Deep down inside, who do you write for? For today's men and women and myself in particular. My books are aimed at bringing all of us together like it ought be. To finally release the wall of discrimination and abolishing the 'color barrier'.
Bay Minette is like that. This fictional/non-finctional novel is based somewhat on a few experiences I've had in my life. It deals with a white man who despartly loved a black woman and how much they could endure the relationship that they've formed together in the deep south at a time when it was forbidden at all costs. |
 | Is writing a form of personal therapy? Are internal conflicts a creative force? Yes it is for me. Very much so. There are several things that has been on display in the short fifty four years of my life. I have went through some things that most people will never go through in their lifetime. |
 | Does reader feed-back help you? Yes it does. I inspires me to play my game a little harder, a little bolder. |
 | Do you participate in competitions? Have you received any awards? I wanted to particpate in the Sobol Awards, but due to the number of insufficiant entries, it was called off back in 07. I have had as of late, a book signing at Barnes & Noble as a local author and did really well.
This latest book that I have written is a modern-day novel of The Color Purple and it is called, "Bay Minette." It spans four generations of two families who are at odds with the mixing of their children and it is mainly about what we are experiencing today, a need to find a peace and tranquility among the races.
The script has been flipped somewhat to an ultimate suprise. My work requires readers with open minds. I sold more than five books "Joe the Plumber" sold at his first outing. : )
Someone, please give me book deal!!!!!! |
 | Do you share rough drafts of your writings with someone whose opinion you trust? Yes I do. With a very good friend, but they're a very good critic as well. |
 | Do you believe you have already found "your voice" or is that something one is always searching for? I have, but that voice continues to require a good tweeking every now and then. |
 | What discipline do you impose on yourself regarding schedules, goals, etc.? My discipline is much higher than me. It cannot be discribed. You may call HIM the divine, however to me HE'S undiscribable. That's my discipline. |
 | What do you surround yourself with in your work area in order to help your concentrate? Nothing. But I love the water. |
 | Do you write on a computer? Do you print frequently? Do you correct on paper? What is your process? I use a pc, but I also use pen and paper. I print only one rough copy to correct on. When the work is completed, it's read and re-read by me and several others, then it's off to the printer. |
 | What sites do you frequent on-line to share experiences or information? History sites. |
 | What has been your experience with publishers? I am my own publisher. Until my work is widely known, then we shall see. |
 | What are you working on now? A fictional-non fictional piece about a young girl who cannot believe that life would mistreat her as bad as it has. She speaks in first person in the onset, then as life goes on, she begans to converse with others. The title is called, "I Never Thought" |
 | What do you recommend I do with all those things I wrote years ago but have never been able to bring myself to show anyone? Some of the things I have written are about me and I've never admitted them to anyone, but I feel much better writing about them, you know, getting it out in the open, but in secret through a character's name.
Ok, so I'm a coward.
Sue me. |
