Interview with:Beth Ward [bethward]
POLITICS
 | How do you define your political position? What is the ideology that inspires it? Conservative, Constitutional, right wing, patriot, "Tea Party." |
 | What matters more in deciding your vote: the party, the candidate, or the ideas? The ideas. What matters is where a candidate stands on the issues, and nothing else. |
 | Do you think religion has a place in politics? Absolutely. Religion shapes who we are as individuals. What I believe about God shapes how I view the issues and how I will vote. I am looking for a candidate who holds the same perspective on the issues that I do, so it matters to me how this person views God. Only a person who doesn't value God would believe that the religion and politics can be separated. |
 | Are high abstention levels a serious problem for democracies? Sure |
 | Should parties that want to eliminate democracy be allowed to participate in democratic elections? That's an interesting question. One should probably say yes, thinking that all ideas are equal and have a right to be voted on. Or "No," because our Constitution is not only the law of the land, but it is the foundation on which our entire nation is based. A simple majority vote should not be able to - and legally can not - supersede the Constitution. Changes to the Constitution require a specific process.
But... the question is whether a communist or socialist party should be able to participate in our system, and some would say that even if they did, they wouldn't get much support so why not let them.
But on the other hand - we have seen so much horror and destruction perpetrated on people all over the world at the hands of Communists and socialists, that personally, I would rather just see parties that specifically espouse those ideas be banned in America on the basis that they are subversive to our government and way of life.
So the answer is, "No." People that hold those beliefs are not welcome to destroy our nation, and I would much rather they be told to move to a country that embraces those philosophies. |
 | Are Right and Left obsolete concepts? Absolutely not. Right and Left exist, and the chasm between them is only getting deeper and wider.
We are becoming more and more of a separate people, not divided on the lines of race, religion, or gender, as the current liberal administration would want us to believe - but deeply divided on ideology. |
 | Why does hunger continue to exist in the world? Is this the result of a deliberate policy? No. It is the result of mismanagement, greed, and ineptness on the part of many leaders across the world, but has nothing to do with a specific or deliberate policy. Most of the leaders who are hurting their own people aren't conspiring to do it. They are making their corrupt and inept decisions primarily on their own. While they may have the support and encouragement of equally corrupt leaders, they are too selfish and self-centered to be doing it for "team" reasons. |
 | What type of information should a government be able to legally maintain on about its citizens? Vital statistics (ie birth, death, and census records), military records, and arrest records. |
 | What political figures in recent history do you admire most? Marco Rubio, Bobby Jindall, Darrell Issa, Allen West, Paul Ryan, Dr. William B. Allen, Mike Huckabee, Scott Walker, Lech Walesa (Poland), |
 | Two-party systems are on the rise: is this good for politics? I am not convinced they are on the rise. I see signs that things might be changing. |
 | Should any territory have the right of self-determination if a majority of the population votes in favour of doing so? Assuming that the term used means exactly what it says, I answer yes, territories such as Guam and Puerto Rico should have a right to self-determination.
I am more disturbed by the notion that they can be transformed into states without the knowledge and agreement of American citizens. (recent votes in Congress had appeared intent on doing so.) |
 | Does a state have the right to attack or intervene in another country that has not attacked said state, if the country has committed grave injustices or crimes against humanity? In situations such as Germany of the 1940's, Rwanda of the 1990's, and in several other more recent situations, we should have moved to prevent the slaughter of innocent men, women and children a heck of a lot faster than we did. I believe it is despicable for us to sit, doing nothing, while helpless people are massacred. |
 | Do you believe in any of the conspiracy theories regarding 9-11? No |
 | Are there too many taxes? Absolutely |
 | Do you believe in affirmative action? As the mother of multi-racial children, absolutely NOT. To believe that my children require such a demeaning law is to believe that they are somehow inferior to their peers. They are not. They are perfectly capable of taking care of themselves and do not need society to pat them on the head and talk down at them. |
 | Should a maximum limit of permissible personal fortune exist; and thereby, place limits on individual wealth? No |
 | Should consensual offenses such as drug use or prostitution be legalized? NO. These laws were put into place for a reason. There is no such thing as "victimless" crime. Not only do drugs and prostitution destroy the vulnerable in our communities, society - who we are as a people - suffers when standards are lowered to gutter levels. |
 | Are you pro-choice or pro-life? PRO-LIFE.
I detest that liberals on the left pretends to speak for me as a woman. I am a woman who would never knowingly hurt, let alone murder, any child, let alone my own child. I am also speaking as a Registered Nurse. I would never accept a position where I was required to assist in killing a child.
If a time comes when government will try to mandate that all health professionals participate in such things, I will quit as a health care professional. |
 | Are you in favor of or against the death penalty? As I said, I am pro-life. I am against the death penalty. |
 | Should homosexual couples have the same right to adopt as heterosexual couples? Absolutely Not. Studies show that children are healthiest with both a mother and father in the home. |
 | Do you believe that the world crisis can bring positive changes to social values? NO. I believe it will be used to further oppress people. |
 | What significant changes do you think Obama can bring about along his presidential term? Very little, as he hasn't tried very hard at anything other than this disastrous health care bill. I do not believe he is a capable leader. We would do better with a man like Allen West, Marco Rubio, or Bobby Jindal. |
