brian richard hart [brianrhart]
What do you do? How do you define yourself as an artist?
I am a printmaker, painter and digital artist.
What is your message?
My work itself has no clear cut message. Often times my work attempts to deconstruct and obscure the messages and meanings in the source materials I am working from. I am primarily interested in how the meaning and connotation of images can be changed by how they are used or manipulated. We carry with ourselves certain prejudices when it comes to how we view objects and images in our surroundings. By changing the medium and presentation of these images.
Your biography in four lines.
Graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design in Printmaking 2005. Born in Tonawanda, NY currently residing/working/painting in Somerville, MA.
Do you upload your work to the web? If so, where could we see it?
What is art?
When do you get your best ideas?
Usually through experiencing some other art form not related to painting, whether it is reading, movies, music etc
Why do so many artists and creators have such volatile personalities?
Most artists are self-obsessed and egocentric it what makes them feel the need to create and show their work to others.
How should a work of art be evaluated?
on a scale of 1 to 10
Does it pain you to let go of a piece you have sold?
Only if its one of the latest pieces I have done. After I finish a new series of work I am significantly less attached to the older work and part with it much easier.
How do you feel about the fact that the pieces exhibited in contemporary art museums are often of artists already deceased?
I don't think that is necessarily true...
Do you personally collect any items?
I always enjoy trading art with my friends its much more satisfying than selling a piece to someone I know.
