How did you begin making music? Who introduced you? Wrote first song called "jazzy Stars" at age of 5. Just sat down and created music. Always loved and been fascinated in music and the makings of the new sounds so just wanted to be a part of the musical journey.
When did you realise that making music could be a way of life for you? After playing a few gigs and realising it can be very much fun but also a good income...only if you work hard enough though and you MUST work hard.
What is your creative process? Always sitting down with my guitar. Just play it and play it. Sometimes nothing creative comes of it but now and again something will spark and a song or music is created. Music usually comes first but can vary hugely.
When do you have your most lucid moments, in the morning or night? Usually night...too dopey in the morning...
Have you ever awoken with a melody created from your dreams? Actually dreamt of a full song a few weeks back but couldn't remember it when I woke up so not yet. I have hopes of having a Paul McCartney moment soon though ;)
How do you know when a song is finished or needs no more changes? Can take me a while to finish a song, maybe the lyrics just don't seem right but I usually get that feeling of relief and triumph and I know I am happy with the song's result then.
How did you discover your creative territory? How would you describe it? I started music on a bass guitar and joined a band, La Fiasco. Just a bassist but gradually did a bit of singing and writing a few simple tracks on the guitar chords that I knew (about 3) over time people liked the music so I started to believe in myself more and began picking up and getting more serious on guitar. Now I know at least 8 chords :P Nah, always working on making a song different and better and I think I am achieving this with every song I create
What part of your job is your least favourite? The pay and waiting around
How often do you practice? every single day. At least a few hours.
How do you feel right before going out on stage? Little nervous but more excited.
Which musicians or groups have been inspiring to your career? Many. Main ones are Buddy Holly, The Kinks, The Beatles, Green Day, T Rex, The Fratellis, Oasis, Ocean Colour Scene etc etc
| List three songs that are key to your life. Yesterday - The Beatles
That'll be the Day - Buddy Holly
20th Century Boy - T Rex |
What should be done to stop piracy? Clamp down on the laws and make the crime's punishment much more severe.
What type of music do you detest? Thrash Metal, Drum & bass, Modern Rap (80's - early 90's was cool) Techno
What time did you get up this morning? 9 am
How do you sell yourself? What has been your experience with record companies and representatives? Not much experience there unfortunately. Very hard business. But I sell myself by generally playing live, meeting people, new musicians and musical fans. Also a lot of online advertisement on social networks and music sites.
What other things have you done to make a living? Odd jobs. Warehouse worker, extra work in films and TV
Who would you play with, without a doubt? Billie Joe Armstrong from Green Day. Gwen Stefani from No Doubt. Johnny Flynn. Many more too
What advice would you give to someone starting out in the business? The music industry is a marathon, not a sprint. Be prepared to get your hands dirty.
