ILLUSTRATION
What is your specialty in illustration?
What I like the most to do is fantasy art in digital medias such as Photoshop. Usually I begin with a pencil sketch and then completly color it with the software. Recently I also began to draw traditionnal pencil portraits and now I can't choose between these two media... But honestly everything has an interest for me: realistic style, animals...
Is there a web address where we can see some of your work?
http://dameodessa.deviantart.com is obviously my DA gallery and http://www.tjukurpa.net/ is a blog (only in French) explaining some little details about the arts I made.
Have you completed formal art studies, or are you self-taught?
Except the tutorials I often use on DA, I'm totally self-taught.
What past or present day illustrators do you admire most?
They are so many! Todd Lockwood, Michael Turner, Tim Seeley, Tetsuya Nomura, Yoshitaka Amano....
How similar are your current drawings to those you did as a child?
The theme is usually similar, since I'm a big fan of fantastic worlds, but using digital medias helped me a lot to improve my works, so well, of course, they have not a lot in common now!
What was your favorite comic book as a child?
I Loved a lot Asterix and Donald Duck's stories ;)
Do you have a particular style, or does it vary a lot?
Honestly I don't know if I can tell I have a particular style, I think it can varies a lot from one drawing to another, from one world to a different one.
What is hardest to draw?
A look, hands and human anatomy in general. Because you always have to be very careful concerning proportions!
What type of music do you listen to while you work?
Depends on the drawing: Fantasy OST (Stardust or LOTR), jazz (Sonny Boy Williamson), rock (Breaking Benjamin) or pop (Michael Jackson)...
What new techniques have you been experimenting with lately?
I try a bit of 3D with Daz and Terragen... And it was not a great success!
What part of your work do you do on paper and what part digitally?
The lineart and sometimes the shadows are made on paper. The coloring is made with Photoshop or GIMP.
What research do you do for your illustrations?
Most of all, I'm always looking for the good pose and proportions, looking at hundred of pages of fashion magazines, comics or even people on the street. I'm also interested in the little detail making the difference...
Do you have colleagues with whom you share techniques, tricks, ideas, etc.?
Some people on DA helped me a lot, for example criticizing the wrong points on my arts and helping me to improve a lot!
Do you have any specific goals as an illustrator?
Always improving and trying my best!
What illustration web sites do you frequent?
Only DeviantART ;)
What are you working on now?
A Na'vi illustration made with pencil and something for a "Happy New Year" ^^
