ART
What do you do? How do you define yourself as an artist?
My art is based on ideas and philosopies and stories with conflict and contradictions. All this is brings associations that could end up in an inspiration for a visual.
What is your message?
Use evil against evil to make choises between evils to choises between goods! Its benifitial and naturally clean to do so.
Your biography in four lines.
I was born in Norway and went ad drawing then cartooning school. Worked as a designer and illustrator for several years. Then studied art in UK. Have only had exebitions online not live. Its about time!!
Do you upload your work to the web? If so, where could we see it?
http://mrantonsen.deviantart.com/
How is an idea born? For you, what is inspiration?
It comes out of my own feeling to go in any coinsidential direction. This leads me to do research. My bottom line is that anything anyone has in their mind is seen or observed in some way by using their senses like hearing, seeing, smelling or feeling touch. But it has become scrambelled or as Scientologist tells oclusions in your mind of all memories. The oclusions in your mind has been scrambeld by your own personality and becoms very much your own creation when basing your art on this. But you can refine your style and develop the style from a main personal oclusion and then do any research. Copy and take as you like and use this through your own filtered oclusion and its mainly your own. A person who dont see does not have any inner viewed memory unless they have become blind and has a reference. People who are born blind cannot make anything visual because they havent seen and havent learned to see! When you can see and learned to see you should use your own oclusion on everything you see. Dont try to memorise things perfectly but use the error in the oclusion as your original gift to yourself! Love yourself for not being perfect!
What is art?
I mean there are 2 different levels of art. Art by itself and and commersial art. Art by itself is art that is provoking or inflict people/society in a way so it makes a process that changes the society and the way we behave and our likes and dislikes. REAL ART is very powerful and has more to say than we are aware of. It can inflict technology, philosphy, politics, science. Anything that are created of human inspiration and romance for our own everyday use is all inflicted by the time we are in. Time and art is very connected and in order to create something new like any kind of pheriperal or elecrical item you should be aware of the time and the design it requires. But even by not being aware you still will make it timely but maybe not so advanced as it could be with thinking specific. But still it will be within a basic timestyle. Commersial art is just made to sell and create income but are in some cases also inflicting our society the same way as art does. There are a small grayzone between art and commersial art. Sometimes real art becomes commersial as well at least after some time after it has become known. Then later it becomes classic art. Most of the commersial art of today is also in the interactive world like C programming graphics, 3D grapics and normal 2D photoshop art. Digital TV news intros and other intros on film and tv. Special graphics for film/TV series and illustrations for news and magazines or the web. Has all a fundamental commersial thought and the art that follows is also commersial. Unless the provider does specifically want to use an artist on the artists own rules.
When do you get your best ideas?
When walking in silent landscapes or the top of an mountain. When I walk and sride through the nature and chat with any funny person I meet there. To have a rest high up in the mountains anl looking at a distant sundown while eating an evening meal or drink a coffee. Resting after a hard days walk and just considering resting and be away from my daily activities and just clean my mind of dirt. This is when I can hear music I never hear before or get very interresting associations visually. I usually have a scetchbook with me. Travelling to distant places does have the same potensial. But i also get good ideas when working in a brainstormy process and are doing the brainstorming as a serious process step by step and then are filteringt the idea out. But use my hart as the resolving feeler to confirm the likes of it!
How do you evaluate whether an idea is good or not?
It depends what the assosiation is. Usually the idea has a point to tell and this point does has conclusive content this content leads to any way the point was intended to be. Then there is the time issue. Has the idea a point in the right time and how good does it hit the timepoint. Is it contradictive-inflicting and does it use good to solve evil or evil to solve evil or does it purely have an evil intensions. And then there is the telling about the artist and who they are!
When and how did you begin to see yourself as an artist?
While studying in England and by working as a teacher here in Norway. It comes out how life itself is transpiring for me and what is happening around myself. Art is a dedication more than a job and makes you live on the brink of economy at times. And you get many confirmation that you have good ideas from others and good critics on your works. The skills both handycraft and digicraft makes you present your ideas in a newly fashioned way.
Why do so many artists and creators have such volatile personalities?
The intense seeking for the perfect ERROR! But usually it is the most stupid thing to do! Why not be civiliced and wait for it to come by itself. Nobody knows if it comes or not so to be more interrested in traditional art and craftwork may be much more healthy then do crazy things as an hobby beside because this side of any artist will always be there anyway.
Do you consider yourself postmodern?
NO! I consider myself for being futuristic but within the POST POST Modernism. Or as I call it Globalized!
How should a work of art be evaluated?
Find the name of the artist, find out what kind of painting or visual it is, how its made, what the image/visual tells, the telling should give an idea! Find out if it is within the time and if it is good connected in what the cannon sees as new and creative.
Must an artist reinvent him/herself everyday?
Its a personal issue this just like brushing teeth everyday or taking a shower. The hygienic side is certainly important. Based on economy it may be smart to avoid meeting people and avoid taking a shower those days and being as clean and tidy when being with people. But clean impression makes it possible for the artist to connect with everyone and this is the best tool to get advances simply through what people say about the artist. But its important to understand the artists situation since the economical situation in many cases limits the artist possibilleties it will limit down priorities within the artist own household. This will again give thartist more economical space to create more art. But this is under bad conditions. Any other artist with a normal situation should act like everyone else there! When it comes to reinvent the art everyday or the ideaprocess I am not sure it depends where the artist is in the process. In de ideaprocess renewing the ideas is very important!!
What do you think about public funding for the arts?
NO Im against the form of public funding they do today! It should rather be own regions in the country where artist could be and make art without any costs. Like for example a cheap region in any industrial town and make to a free livingplace for artists who are in the establishing phase. Its a max time at this place for 3 years after studies. A place where there was hard rules for being suitable and civilised and social. If rules wasnt followed the artist could be taken out. Requirements for having exhibitions 3 times a year minimum 2 and maximum 5 exhibitions pr year. Food and electricity should be rationed. Inspection from the authorities should happen 4 times a year to see the development and the cleaness of the artist own situation. In return the artist can establish them self to get ready for society. This should only be given to educated artist on a Graduation level or above!
Does it pain you to let go of a piece you have sold?
Sometimes. But I have usually a copy as my own reference an whos got the original.
Is a work of art purchased, or is it better said, that it is the artist who is bought?
If its real art mostly based on the artists own terms its a sale of the artist rather than a sale of the artwork. But if its a very traditional piece of art imaging something real or what we see with our pure eye its a sale of artpiece.
In art, there is no guide. How do you know what the next step is?
There are rules. But the way you find out what to do is more complicated! It comes out of complexities inn transpirations in life. Measured evaluations in the themes that comes up in the things you care about in life and what you think is nessesary to get ahead in worklife! Then there is the rules that guides you to further heights when you have chosen what you should do and where to go!
How do you feel about the fact that the pieces exhibited in contemporary art museums are often of artists already deceased?
It tells something about the real intensions of why the government has so many art courses. Its just like a get rid of peoples program! But only mostly for men!! A good advice for any artist is to get some experience in another profession in order to survive!!
What types of jobs do you usually do?
Web animations and animations for films an d interactive animation!
Do you personally collect any items?
I collect medals and emblems and symbols made in metal or stone.
Which websites do you frequently visit?
www.art.com www.grafill.no www.deviantart.com www.pixelbrush.net www.wired.com www.apple.com www.scientology.org www.marvel.com www.daz3d.com www.newtek.com etc etc
What advice would you give to those just beginning?
Depending what they/you are planning to do. If its classical art with painting then try to get a deal at any gallery shop and make them sell and order your art. This is usually ver difficult but its worth a try. Then you must arrange your own exhibitions. Make a couple of online portfolios on different database websites plus your own dedicated website presenting all of you and the best you have to offer as an artist. Try to sell online. Begin to deal with the cannons in your art field. Try to get acceptance as soon as possible
