 | What is your specialty? What applied knowledge and methods do you use in your work? Structural Engineering. I use what I learned in grade school, then high school, then Washington Univ., including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Mostly I use critical observation, scientific method of hypothesis and testing to assess situations and solve problems. |

 | How would you describe your professional strengths and weaknesses? strengths: looking and listening. analysis, creative problem solving.
weaknesses: maintaining focus after essential problem is solved, record keeping. |
 | What did you play with as a child? Does your profession have anything to do with your childhood toys? Lego, erector set, magnets, words and numbers. Yes |
 | What role does creativity play in your work? Do you have leeway to develop innovative ideas? Creativity is essential. Yes I have leeway. |
 | What type of technology do you use to develop your work? Computers, calculators, spirit level (half of a bubble off), hammer, screwdriver |
 | Do you think you are up to date in your sector? How do you keep up to date? Not really as much tech as many, but I read and ask for help. |
 | Which is more important: meticulousness so as not to make mistakes or imagination to find innovative solutions? Getting the correct answer can have life or death consequences, the creative solution gives pleasure and saves people money. |
 | What do you do about that stupid "bug" you’ve been trying to work out for five hours with no progress? sleep on it. |
 | Which do you prefer: to deal with technical problems or problems with clients? no preference |
 | Do you need to be in good physical shape to do your work? not really, I've been able to adjust with age |
 | Ingenuity is lost if it is not cared for. How is ingenuity cultivated exercise it |
 | Will you be one of the first to reserve a seat once space travel comes on the market? won't be able to afford it. Missed that boat long ago when I chose not to go to Air Force Academy. |
 | What is your concept of elegance in solutions? I know it when I see it. Simplicity |
 | Do you have a group of friends or colleagues that you share technological matters with? just co-workers |
 | What kind of job would you like to get via telephone today? totally open, but wouldn't do it over the phone. |
 | Aside from know-how, what qualities should an engineer have in order to be a successful professional? see above answers, it has worked for me. |
 | When evaluating an employee or collaborator, what importance do you give to courses and certifications? none |
 | Are you are satisfied with your current challenges? Would you like to deal with more difficult problems? If so, what kind? I take it as it comes, not more difficult, just a variety. |
 | Where do you see yourself in five years? I have not operate in that manner in the past, Long term goals are a new thing for me.. |
 | What advice do you give those who want to work in your field? Pay attention to yourself and others |
