Interview with:

Emma Calin [emmacalin]

What is your blog address? What subjects do you deal with?
What was it that made you create your blog? On what date did you start it?
My blog started in May 2011. It coincided with the launch of my first e-books on Amazon Kindle. All the self-publishing gurus recommend every author should have a regular writing platform to connect with readers in between books.
What blogging system have you adopted and why?
I currently use Blogger basically because it is free and very simple to get up and running quickly with minimum technical know-how
How many visits a day do you get? What type of comments do you receive?
I get between 10-40 views per day. At the moment I get very few comments which is really frustrating. Sometimes I try to be really rather controversial but folks still do not bite back. All the comments I have had so far, have always been kind and positive and I am grateful for them as it spurs you on if you think someone is out there listening. I have also had of course, some annoying spam comments too which are just time consuming and tedious.
How has 'having a blog' contributed to your life?
It's great as it gives me a daily focus to write - excellent discipline for an author, on the flip side it does require significant mental effort which is hard to find every day - especially when there is a day job, a family and more novels to write too!
Have you created relationships with other bloggers or readers of your blog?
Yes - a few. Certainly folks I have mentioned in the blogs posts have become interweb pals and we all look out for each other
How often do you post? Does regular posting of your blog require a lot of effort on your part?
I post daily without fail. As I mentioned it does require discipline and dedication to keep coming up with new subjects each day as well as trying to deliver in what is hopefully an amusing and entertaining style.
Does blogging bring in income for you? Can one make a living from posting?
No income as yet from the blog - although I hope that in the long term some book sales may result.
How do you promote your blog?
It is advertised on my Twitter bio, on my website and on Amazon, Smashwords, Goodreads and other sales outlets
How would you define your readers? Have you got a faithful audience?
My audience consists apparently of 7 'follower' and a few others who check in regularly but 80% are completely random visits by folks searching on google for something I have talked about - which could be Social Comment about poverty or buying Gas bottles in France!
Have you ever received gifts for blogging about your opinion of products or services? What do you think of bloggers who do that?
No. Well everyone has to earn a crust.
How do you see your blog evolving in the future?
I may cut back on the posting regularity - daily is just exhausting and does not seem to bring in extra followers so I am thinking of cutting down to 3 times a week.
What advice would you give to someone who wishes to begin a blog?
Go for it - but try and get your blog syndicated and listed with the big Blog Directories and also go for Guest Blogging - it seems a good way to get visibility.
