People are always interested in what is happening in the world around them, and the red-top press have provided information at low cost which is what mainly drives people to buy their papers. They seem to have created a self-perpetuating desire for celebrity news too, which they provide and people read because it is the main news source available to them. This in turn makes them interested in gossip because it is presented as much more interesting that actual news, and so they buy newspapers which have celebrity news in, and so on. |
