Worry about your skills before you ever worry about your contract. If you suck or you've been making music for a week, don't expect anything great; you have to invest the time to become worth hearing first. Also, don't take the word of every A&R guy you meet. Research what he says, sign nothing, and get a lawyer to go over that contract with a fine-toothed comb.
