I am concerned with the underfunding of state universities, like the one at which I work. It seems the legislature wants us to charge higher tuition to students while giving us less funding. We have had a series of budget cuts which have not been helpful to higher education. Education needs to be accessible, affordable and engaging. In our rural service area we have a very low number of our citizens who have a college education (about 17%). Our challenge is to overcome the barriers to first time college students and provide the great amount of support they will need to be successful.
