It's because their interests happen to converge on a single topic. Every specific field in science usually has a set of "hot" questions, and many scientists in that field are obviously drawn to these questions and happen to make similar discoveries. Discoveries reported by two or more independent laboratories are considered highly valid.
In reality, however, scientists in a specific field have some ideas about what is going on in other laboratories and end up making agreements reagarding the date and place of data release. |
