CanyonLivingMagazine.com is the first of several magazine-themed blogs I intend to create. Canyon Living Magazine is a monetized blog (ad supported) and therefore an income source. The magazine has grown faster than I would have imagined, and I am currently searching for a commission-based advertising sales rep so I may contribute more time to the creation and web design of the other sites in queue.
Although my career background has been in ad sales/marketing/publishing, the economic downturn a few years ago saw my career take a tumble - just like so many other business professionals across the nation. After two solid years of maintaining a "job" with sub-standard pay in order to support my family, I knew that I had fallen into the trap of being overqualified/underpaid/overworked. Sink or swim, if I wanted to get out from under that situation, I would have to muster a lot of strength and determination. I quit the "job" the beginning of December, 2010. I took a flying leap out of the nest... it hasn't been smooth flying all the way, but the ability to embrace talents and skills we know we have in order to better ourselves is a life-lesson in itself.
"Having a Blog" has allowed me to recreate myself, and grow a business enterprise which is an amazing (and yes, profitable) journey. I work on occasion from they city, but most often from our home office on top of a mountain in the Roosevelt National Forest... who could possibly ask for more?!?! Having a strong support system in my life partner/business partner, as well as strong business ties and creating/maintaining solid relationships with colleagues through social media has helped immensely in growing the blog (aka magazine) into a true business enterprise, as opposed to a part-time blog site. It's all about the vision you set out to produce, the plans you create and follow through with, and the dedication it takes to grow your business. | | |
