The kind of relationship that I have with my students is one where my students feel safe to learn, experiment and make mistakes. It is important for me to create an classroom environment where students feel they are free to be themselves. Professor Rob Graham at Nipissing University has an expression that I enjoy from a classroom management standpoint that says that you should be fun, fair, firm, flexible and forgiving. My students know that it is important for them to develop self advocacy skills and be accountable. I am passionate about teaching and want that to come across to my students in my delivery of lessons, but for them to know that I am enthusiastic about the work that they do and to value their contributions. My students know that fun and laughter has a place in the classroom. |
