For what I write, I feel that having a good main character is one of the most important parts of a story. Having that character put into extraordinary circumstances and see how they will react to it.

Setting is important to a good story for me as well. The description shouldn't be too long or drawn out and leave nothing to the imagination, but just enough to give you a good idea of where you are and what's around you.
