WRITING

What did you first read? How did you begin to write? Who were the first to read what you wrote?

I guess that must have been a children's book as a toddler. I dislike reading because I suffer from dyslexia (not very practical for an author). I wrote my first unpublished novel at 17 which was read by more than 10 publishers who thought I had potential. I wrote another 8 unpublished novels before a publisher contacted me with the request to write my autobiography in the Dutch. It became a best-seller in the Netherlands and Belgium and has also been published in the English in the USA. My follow-up memoir I wrote directly in the English and was published in the UK and USA in 2007. I couldn't believe that my non-fiction books got published, despite the fact that I am a fiction writer. I am also baffled that I am more successful writing in a language that is not my mother tongue.
