ARCHITECTURE
In your professional philosophy, what comes first, function or form?
It depends! Be flexible! Each priority for each project.
FUnction
Function. Because I think, function can do what form can't do. That decides an architecture is good or not. Function without good form, people can live. But form without function, it's trash.
Function. Without it, a building is useless and because of that, ugly
I believe that function should come first. I do not know how many times I have worked with a young designer to find them working out tricky elevation details and then realize that the function of the interior will not work with the exterior elevations.
Function comes first for me because I am building spaces for people and if they are not usable it doesn't matter what form they take- it will be useless.
It does not mattter which comes first. What matters is the INTERACTION of form and function. Function should be one of the basic tenets that an architect should address. Form evolves and is also finetuned in the design process.
I do not dissociate between function and form, for me, they both came together. |
