Do you normally photograph with a purpose already in mind, or do you let yourself go with the flow?
I start with a purpose but it always flows into something else. It's a very organic process.
I start with a plan and hopefully "flo" kicks in as well. Sometimes the flow just takes over and that is great...but if that flow dosen't kick in it sure is nice to have a plan to fall back on!

go with the flow. commercially i used to work on major food ads all day and sometimes all night. one shot! the process was endless and meetings were held during the shoot to make sure everyone was on 'target'. i saw so much
creativity and fun lost during these overly critical shoots.

I start out with a general subject in mind but my work is largely inspired by the environment at the time.
I mostly shoot on location. One of my strengths is my ability to make the most of what presents itself.
I usually have an idea that I aim for, but life happens, and often that changes everything and you end up with a photo you did not plan, but which is amazing and fun.

Always have something in mind. Beyond that, I let the shoot evolve as conditions allow.
Commercial photography by definition has purpose. Good photography of any kind, however, usually happens with a ton of preparation and then simple readiness for what happens. You've got to make your own luck.
I go with the flow, I chose the right place, watch my light and let my subjects be.

Totally depends on the job.
I do both – no matter how structured something is – there’s always magic that happens and you expect the unexpected. Everyone on set is confident in my skills & we have a lot of fun. I think big, and I can deliver big.
The bottom line is always my clients and what works for them, all that matters is that they get better than the best I can give. |
