Do you normally photograph with a purpose already in mind, or do you let yourself go with the flow?

it usually comes naturally, if its for myself, but on assignments i have to work to a pre thought purpose

We usually will go with the flow, but sometimes we tend to have the scene flow in a controlled direction. We have done a lot of commercial photography which has trained us know how to achieve natural expressions. Making the client or the model laugh will help, but the location and the reason has to be there as well.

again this depends on so many things, nine times out of ten I go with the flow, trying to capture things as they happen with minimal direction from myself. If an idea pops into my head while I'm on a portraiture shoot, I may call out a direction here and there to see what comes out of it. In the case of portrature work I like to have my subjects discuss with me what they are looking for and a few shots that they would like to try and then let it grow from there.

when I'm shooting within large groups I like to work in a photojournalistic mode, getting interactions as they happen.

If I'm shooting nature or landscapes it's go with the flow all the way

Generally, I go with the flow and I get influenced by my feelings.

Sports and musical events take care of themselves

A little of both. I come as prepared as I can, and hope for some surprises!

With the food, I know what I want to photograph, but I tend to flow while doing the actual photographs

I strongly believe in responding to a situation, not imposing on to the situation.

You have to be able to do both at the same time. Sometimes creativity hits you at random times and you have to be ready to capture the candid!

It varies. Sometimes I have a clear idea beforehand (which may or may not vary when confronted with reality of the situation). On other occasions it is more spontaneous or in response to the subject.

I will plan ahead if this is one of my commission, but one of my fav. phtography is street snap, with that said I would just go with the flow or the music I'm listening to.

Yes! Start with a purpose and then go with the flow.
Light changes fast!

I walk around and keep an eye out for something that I think would make a good photo. I don't plan, I just let nature take it's course, so to speak.

Usually I completely go with the flow. Every once in a while I will have a shot in mind.
