Do you normally photograph with a purpose already in mind, or do you let yourself go with the flow?
Yes, definitely on a weekend shoot, its preloaded. But generally it goes with the flow.
I go both ways. I never really shoot with people unless I have a general idea of what I want to capture, but going with the flow can produce some of the best results.

Nicholas Viltrakis: Both, I have ideas I have planned but I fill the rest of the time with spontaneous shots.
Its always good to have a game plan, you have to have a starting point, but you'd miss out on some of the best shots if you didn't stay flexible.
when shooting action shots there is no planning.
Of course I try to set my mind with what I should do at the next wedding, but I will be ready for any interesting and expressive photo opportunity.

I just like to go with the flow it is more simple and relaxing to just go with it.
A little of both. Purpose is to take it seriously. The flow shows up.
I usually have an idea of what I'd like to shoot. I usually ask the subject what they are looking for in the shoot.
Once shooting I also let go and go with the flow. Depends on how my subject is feeling.

I try to go into a shoot with an idea of what I want but I also like to have no idea what I'm going to do exactly till I arrive. I love to think on my feet.
I think both. I usually plan shots or have ideas in my mind, but if you cannot let go and photograph what's in front of you, I feel you are losing out on a great opportunity to create. So if I don't have any ideas when I get there, no harm, I have shots planned out. Vice Versa. |
