Do you normally photograph with a purpose already in mind, or do you let yourself go with the flow?
Let myself go with the flow.
This varies depending on what I'm doing. If I just happen to be going out for the day taking photographs i just go with the flow and see what comes.
If however, I'm doing a project I plan to the n'th degree! I'll look through other photographers projects, working mostly in my head rather than in sketch pads, and gather up all my ideas. I don't know what my final artist statement will be until the work is finished, usually quite a while after because I hate writing them! I'll take some initial photos, and then go through them seeing if I have what I want, rethinking a few ideas, and then go out and take the final photographs.

Yes, I always have a subject that I am going for, although I am always open for the muse to hit and try something different.
That really depends on the subject. On personal projects, I try to suppress preconceptions and let the story unfold.
Sometimes there's a whole process behind my work, sometimes I simply take spontaneous shots. It depends on the purpose/objective.
I usually have an ideal picture in my mind before I start, but naturally i was seem to go off on a tangent, lol

I see the photograph before It was taken.
I usually have vision in my head prior the shoot after talking to a client, but I never put myself into specific frames. I Let my mind flow.
Sometimes based off of looking at what I'm taking a picture of, i get an idea of what I want the photograph to look like. Sometimes I just go with the flow. All depends if something pops into my head or not.
Locations are usually planned but what gets photographed depends on what catches my eye at the time.
My purpose is to always come out with atleast one picture of each subject that is amazing compared to the rest. Whether I capture this in the coloring of the picture or the subject itself, something about the picture of the subject needs to stand out to me. |
