Do you normally photograph with a purpose already in mind, or do you let yourself go with the flow?
I always have intention whenever I photograph and I always have a purpose in mind before I begin a shoot, such as the types of shots that I want, how I want my models to pose, the entire concept behind the shoot (I am a big fan of concepts) etc. Although, I never switch off to alternate possibilities or opportunities. If I am undertaking a shoot and the energy starts to go in a different direction to what I initially anticipated, I will flow with that and see where it takes me. Nonetheless, if I am going for a particular look or style I will make sure I achieve it.
Pretty much go with the flow. When I go with a set idea in mind, it rarely works out as I thought it would.
a bit of both, but it depends on the situation. I love being out on my bike and just stumbling across something I want to photograph. I do also enjoy plotting and planning for a particular landscape, and working out what I'm looking for.
Recently I've had several bands asking me to take photos for them for websites and promotional materials, which takes a fair bit more planning beforehand.
My camera never leaves my sight, as i said earlier we all view the world differently so i like being able to capture what i see at a moments notice.
It depends on who hires me to do the job, or who I work with for the particular project. I prefer to set a clearly defined objective first, but not everyone feel the same, and sometimes even I don't.
I do plan it, but sometimes things change in the spur of the moment, or you get inspired by something else, so it depends I normally do have quite a good idea of the concept but I let everything else flow, and see what comes out of it.

Both. I always have a very clear idea of the kind of image(s) I want, but more often than not, will end up going off at a wild tangent then ends up infinitely more rewarding. |
