How do you choose your subjects?

Whohub

It just happens, i meet someone and if they turn me on in anyway i usually want to make an image of them.
otherwise its magazine, record label assignments.

By personal interests such as yoga, equestrian, people. Or by assignment.

Whatever I get excited about!

I work mostly on assignment, but when I do shoot on my own, or on a travel assignment, I generally just go after what catches my eye. Very often, a story can be told in a person's eyes- which is likely what begins my desire to photograph the subject. Other times, it's the light or the scene the subject happens to be a part of.

brainstorm

The subject matter is driven by the message I am trying to illustrate. For example, I just finished an image to portray the concepts of challenge and risk. For that I have a sumo wrestler about to be caught doing flying trapeze...there is a BIG question about whether the athlete doing the "catching" will be able to hold that sumo wrestler! I like to shoot a lot of humorous photos...and that is just one example of humor used in stock photography.

i work with some food stylists that are amazingly creative. i usually go with their intuition as to what they want to work on. i shoot and share. we look and talk about the shot. make changes. i believe that two heads are better than one. i learn alot this way.

Whatever my client wants shot.

Mostly, I am given them on assignment, but when I see a building or person that grabs my attention, I go after them.

Combination of having my subjects choose me, and what my eye is drawn to. As a female photographer, I can get close to children without worrying parents, and I have found some amazing subjects that way.

I choose my subjects depending on what specific project I am working on, for instance by their clothing, hair, where they work, what they like, I approach people often on the street and end up with whoever will actually sit for me.

My commercial work always comes by assignment. My personal work is chosen on the basis of its personal appeal to me--either beauty, mystery, history, etc.

My clients do that! I shoot what they want and need done for their business!

I like to photograph people that hire ME not my camera, I try to be selective and only take clients that get my style.
In my photo journalistic work I just look around and capture those things that call my attention for some reason.

Completely by chance, exploration
