What do you try to express through your photography?
I try to show the personality of the people I am photographing, to bring out those elements that make them who they are.
A conversation. I like my subject to show a part of their personality and charachter. I like the viewer to see my style and approach and the viewer should have an opinion.
I try to capture moments that everyone experiences but most people overlook.
I try to fufill the client's wishes while at the same time adding my "touch" to the project.
THE moment
I'm really just trying to get the photo to tell a story.
commercially ... shots that get attention for the clients ... art I like people to feel good & enjoy the image
Humor, and detail
I try to capture the emotion of the moment. There is a reason why I chose a particular instant to press the shutter release. It may be the emotion I see in the subject I am shooting, or the emotion I have viewing a particular situation. It's all about emotion.
I try to capture my emotions, feeling, the truth sorrounding me. Then I try to share others my 'observations'.
I was brought up in the old Hawaiian way so I try to bring those values to whatever I do. Whether I'm on a commercial assignment or shooting something for an upcoming show. I try to respect people and be aware of the places that I go to. And let the artistic side of it come through. Is it honest, are you being true to your client, are you being true to your yourself?
I try to express a true story of "A day in the life" of two individuals who have choosen to take their relationship to another level. The emotion of the day, from the tear in a mothers eye to the spontaneous things that occur, the beauty of the surroundings. The detail behind the scenes kind of things that won't be remembered 20 -30 years away.
Express? Good question, I think that all I am trying to achieve is a result that I am personally happy with. Its all about me, and I don't think I am trying to express love, lust, life, or tell a story of societies influence on future ecological diversity. Sorry you asked?
A good photographer should be able to utilize his or her creativity in order to satisfy both the client and him or herself.
I look for what I like to call the "wow" factor. |
