|After working for long periods of time, have you ever felt as though you were in a bubble?
I don't fully understand what is being refered to as being in a bubble.
I would not say that I have ever felt as though I was in a bubble. Though I have felt as though I was in a "zone." This zone is more or less a mindset of thinking in terms of programming.
I almost always work in a bubble. As a consultant that is the hardest part of the job.
I work in all the above wierd areas by withdrawing my conscious self into a bubble so I can concentrate on what I need to do, and ignore the distractions.
I do it all the time and from the first second my fingers weave their way over the keyboard.
I pride myself on the fact a Royal Navy Harrier once landed on a disused airfield where we were testing a new Air Traffic Control Radar. He taxied with that wonderful Pegasus engine screaming fit to burst right up to the portakabin where I was working and the first I knew of it was when the pilot knocked the door and asked did we have a phone as his radio was on the blink and yes he would love a cup of tea ..... !
I'm not sure I understand the question right, but after working for long periods of time I often feel like I "wake up" to the real world.
I've never felt that. Usually I felt sleepy.
Sometimes, if I'm working for 8 hours straight. I tend to start thinking in program code instead of thinking like a normal person. Often times I find that once working for that long I cant stop working, my brain just gets to involved in the code and or the project.
Yes! If I ever work for more than four hours at a time or work very late into the night I find it nearly impossible to talk in a socially acceptable manner to other people for at least twice as long as I worked for.
When I haven't been interrupted by anybody for many hours, I do feel like in a bubble. I like such days but they are rare, sadly. In fact, I may even forget to lunch because I'm programming something which gives me a hard time.
