When I write software, I try not to rely on anything proprietary or even platform-specific so that anybody who wants to use it isn't constrained. These days my platform of choice is Ubuntu (with the linux kernel, gnu userland, and debian package management underneath). And I'm an emacs addict.
In my first days, I was using the classic ASP. After that i tried what called NukePHP. then I extend my knowledge with PHP and its frameworks. and almost 3 years ago I "discovered" Rails! I learnt it without any knowledge with Ruby -imagine-. after that I had lots of love sessions with Ruby, Ruby on Rails, Merb, Sinatra, doing some random stuffs, gems, patches, etc. And proudly, I'm a very active Rubyist in Ruby community -as Arabian.
i developed many web sites using PHP language with Zend and CodeIgniter frameworks. i advice you to use netbeans on all platforms. and also i can develope some programs with ASP.net on Visual Studio.

I mainly code in PHP, using both well-known frameworks like CodeIgniter as well as proprietary ones developed at my workplace. Also, I've had some contact with MXML and ColdFusion, but only at an amateur level.
