|Do advertising festivals help to improve the industry, or are they only ways for the elite to pay homage to themselves?
It does help to improve. To share the knowledge and stay in touch with people all over the industry.
Advertising festivals definitely help not only to improve the industry, but also to professionals like us.
Advertising festivals is good because it helps improve the advertising industry. Creative people are more challenge and its a good avenue to hone creativity and thinking skills.
I think they work both ways. I agree with a quote attributed to Lee Clow when he was Creative Director at Chiat Day. He described advertising awards as "psychic income" for creative people. It's not just about the money for most creative types. We seek validation from our peers. Awards and festivals provide that. In turn, recognition motivates creatives to care about the quality of their product, thereby elevating industry standards.
Such an opportunity to compite is always welcome.
yes, they help people see other agency's work and get inspired. they help improve the quality of work.
A little bit of both.
I think most great work comes from a creative's realization that, "This project is my opportunity to win." When I think I have the chance to do a great portfolio piece, I work harder on the concept, the copy, and the sell. There's nothing wrong with that. It inspires people to work harder and better.
Of course it improves the industry. Does anyone blame fashion shows because the clothes they showcase cant be worn daily? Or the auto shows because the concept cars are not yet commercially viable? The advertising festivals are there to show us our road to the future by stretching the boundary of what’s possible.
come on, advertisers need day offs too, don't they?
it realy helps
Improve the industry.. Certainly yes.
Oh they just pay homage to themselves
