What advice would you give to someone starting out in the business?
Never look back and the bad things just focus on the future ahead of you
My advice to anyone starting out in this industry is to 1. Get Educated 2. Get Experience and in that order. Definitely read the book All You Need to Know About the Music Business by Donald Passman, it is an industry standard. For Songwriters I would definitely recommend The Craft and the Business of Song-writing by John Braheny.
The more you know, the less you can be taken advantage of.
The second thing is to get out there, shadow people who are already doing what you want to do. Work with others who have the same interests. Practice not only makes perfect, it makes permanent.
Go get em!
Never give up!!! Collab with like minded people who are out with the same goal!!! U don't want to waste UR time if u tryin to push forward!!! And be prepared to never be rich!!! THIS IS A INDUSTRY THAT IS 1 IN A MILLION CHANCE!!!! Only do it if u love it!!!!!!!
Peace

Take a long, hard look at whether your willing to work really hard and live with the disappointments that will inevitably come. And please, please make HONEST music.
Dunno I guess always have a back up plan, u know like a trade just in case wife and kids come or the IRS or whatever
Believe on you and on your music.Find in you a mechanism to stand up again and again and say to you : Now really.
Connect with your audience.
Don't!
You need a hard shell and you need to make it harder as you go along. Everyone can not be pleased and there will always be someone who likes what you do and who hates it. It's a world full of highs and lows, you'll cry and laugh...but you'll be living. And as long as you try no one can ever say anything otherwise.
The question should be "What could be done to help you?"
Haha. Seriously, I don't know. I'm an rookie myself.
I have no advice as I am not sufficiently experienced.
Work hard and have lots and lots of patience!!!
One word: Persistence
Just do it.
Know what you are in for. It is a grind starting off and it is a even bigger grind when you break. Be yourself, be creative. Music, now more than ever, needs creativity. Music today all sounds the same because everyone is scared of being themselves in their music because they think the public won't like it if it doesn't sound like the so-called "norm." Music has no "norm" because it has no bounderies. |
