How do you know when a song is finished or needs no more changes?
when my ears tell me that everything in it sounds perfect. from the effects to the way my voice is projected all the way to the mastering of the track.
Typically a song is done in my eyes when I feel I've expressed everything I want to express. As far as the writing process. The recording/mixing/mastering process is a little different. It isn't done until the sound matches the vibe/feel that I want it to evoke in the listener.
i wont start writing to the song until i feel the beat is perfect, a beat is perfect after i cant add anything else to it
when am satisfied with it
until i'm satisfied with the lyrics of the song.........
It never is. I eventually stop when it is something that I would be proud to market and stand by.
when we finished writing 'Gang of one' from the second album, Mr Drew ran out into the rehearsal studio corridor going 'that's it! Give up! Give up! No one will ever write a more perfect song!' haha we still love playing that one live. I think there's a skill in knowing when to stop messing. Those kinds of choices say a lot about who you are as musicians.
I think when I've said all I need to say lyrically and musically on it.
But that's the beauty of live performances; you can change and adapt the song each time.
I don't - I just think it sounds finished although it needs mixing and I don't find that as enjoyable as composing.
Well, i never know.
When its been recorded and I've had a chance to listen to it several times.
wen its nothin else to think of it |
