I will begin to write, take time to be by myself, contemplate feelings and emotions I want to share with the listener and begin writing what flows out of my heart
my musical process is the same with my writing process: NONE. :) i just go by the way it feels, i don't force myself to write a song or make a new song.
i smoke pot
Smoke a blunt or two, lax and put on an instrumental.
I write lyrics more than anything. I like to use dynamics in my drumming.
I'm starting with nothing, and playing on guitar og keyboard, and sings.... And then i get some ideas to a melody.... Then i'm building it up on the computer.... I start with the instrumentals, and then i'm singing a guide-vocal, to hear the instruments with the lead vocal.... Then i'm adding some background vocals, and i'm playing with many ideas, and trying to find the way, it should sound..... I do a lot of mixing.... But i start with the instruments, and working it up....
It's like a flash of inspiration, an overwhelming feeling, that has to be "captured" in order for me to have resolution, and peace.
There maybe nothing for months, or years, but when it strikes - bam - I have to drop everything I'm doing, and get it out of my system.
The basic song is done in 5 - 10 minutes, then I may take a few days, or weeks, to tweak it - then I'm satisfied, and at peace.
Of course an actually recording, might be years away.
Producing and writing in the studio, and life events.
In the moment, mostly no preconception = Free improvisation.
Sporadic! Uncontrollable! Fantastic! Wonderful! Pure joy and dream images and fun fun fun. Seriously, I've thankfully broken past the inner critic and experience moments of wisdom and joy that aren't really from me, but I get to say I "own" on an album or in a show, by calling a song "mine." The universe is generous when we listen. On a technical note, things such as "50 songs in 90 days" and "FAWM" (Februrary Album Writing Month) helped a great deal, but encouraging me to write write write. I love how my sound evolves when I don't get involved. I have over 12 albums, waiting to be recorded (album #2 is currently in production).
Entertaining myself by learning some well-known, popular songs. If others like my improvisation, then great. And, they usually do.
Write musical arrangements in my head. Then play and find the patches or instruments to match what I hear in my head. Rerecord and rearrange until it sounds right.
listen listen listen and do it
enormously since then i recorded more than 10 collective cds and at least four singles albums as well as performing internationally in Europe and Latin America as well as widely in the UK.
