What is your creative process?
I just hear a song and I sing it into a recorder.
Nothing particular. Most time I just throw some ideas together and sometimes some of the sounds form something some people call music.
find a main drive and build around it
There is nothing special. If I have a creative phase, then I take them off as well. If I have an inspiration to me and to think of something, I write it immediately and then work on it.
My creative process was when am alone, it even come anytime, anywhere even when am watching a movie or listening to music.
Sometime when i look at everything around me or when i remember my past, the inspiration comes.
Er... lots of late nights and lots of tea! Ha. I don't know. I just sort of sit down with a pen and paper and me guitar and it all just happens.
listening to Neil Young and Dallas Green, than listening to kid cudi while watching the itunes visualizer, THAN just writing whatever pops in my head...honestly i just write verses constantly its like anything else the more you do it the better you'll get at it
Just creating sounds in my mind, record it with my voice recorder, go to the studio of a friend and work it out.
I'll always listen to all kinds of music to get different ideas for things and put them into my own style of doing it.
It's different. Often, a melody comes to my mind when I'm travelling by train. Sometimes I get inspired when I'm at concerts or clubs. And of course, emotions play an important role in this process - happiness, sadness and even love sickness.
For writing, it's personal experiences. I know that I am not the only one in the world who has been through things. My intent is to show those who feel alone that they're not really alone. As for creating beats, I just sit down and let my mind do the creating... what ever pops into my head really.
Well with the Labels I have been working with I will either be sent a rough version of the beat in mind and have a few days or however long I have to begin writing around the concept of the song. I will listen to the track a good few times and slowly begin writing short 16 & 32 bar lyrics to roll with the flow & tempo of the track. Then the magic happens in the studio when we cut, mix and paste it all together. When I am creating a song from scratch, e.g The Beat, Lyrics, Concept, Flow etc then I will record a short beat on my own software then repeat the process building the sounds of the tune as I go along!!!
I basically just go in the studio with a blank canvas and pretty much like a ball player I let the game come to me.I don't force the music out.Sometimes my equipment would stay on until something just comes to me.It can became a little tiring but I love it when I do find something to be build on..feels great.
It really has changed for my upcoming album (to release September 1, 2011). I have always started with the guitar, found something that I liked and then added the lyrics and harmony simultaneously.
With my new songs they're more structure on the rhythm of the song. I would first thing of a tempo and then would write the lyrics according only to the tempo. Once the lyrics were written, I would find a complimentary chord progression on the guitar and then piece a melody together from that.
It's a big change for me, and it wasn't on purpose, but I think I write better songs using the new method.
It honestly changes a lot from song to song. I never really had one set method. |
