When did you realise that making music could be a way of life for you?

In my teens when I got that first royalty check

I returned to Tucson as a career change in 1985. I went to work for a big corporation to bring in money, but had the idea of making it as a piano and keyboard instructor. When the time was right, 1987, I quit my corporate job and started teaching and performing. I've made an excellent full time occupation of it ever since.

Like the first week of playing.

What the fuck else is there to do? Paint? Dance? Sing? I play a horn, and work for the people working for me. Good times.

Only recently. I'm still working on it.

I haven't quite "realized" it yet, it's still a dream of mine. But I guess around a year or two ago I started thinking about it, and a few months ago I decided it's definitely what I want to do with my life.

From day one. Nothing ever has felt as close or as essential ever since I picked up the bass at 16 years of age.

It is part of my way of life. I have always realised it. I have many other interests as well.

This occured from the 1st time I was on stage.

After leaving school (having been inspired by "Dillinja - Fluid" on Test Recordings) I decided to get a full time job to raise finances to build a studio (instead of pursing further full time education, I opted for part time evening education alongside my full time job)

It wasn't until around 2 years later (in 2000) that I became confident enough to make the effort to hand out my demo CDs in person (prior to that I was simply mailing out demo tapes/CDRs in the post).

Once I started travelling around London and personally started handing out demos (to DJs at record shops, distribution companies and at various club nights), my confidence grew and so did my list of contacts.

I was fortunate enough to receive good feedback and encouragement all round (and all criticism was constructive enough to learn from; many of it levelled at my lack of knowledge of sound engineering at the time)

Within 3 months my demo ended up in the hands of DJ Wacko who then worked for SRD and ran a labelled called Beeswax.
He contacted me and was very positive, asking if I could produce something for his label.

I sent him another demo shortly after with new material on. He heard a track called "Polluted Beach" on it and wanted to sign it straight away (to my surprise, being only 17 at the time).
This was released 1 year later and managed to get to number 3 in Fabio & Grooverider weekly chart in Summer 2001.

Loving the culture, seeing my track on vinyl and watching people dance to something I created for the first time was something I knew I wanted to be a part of the rest of my life.

Through the music releases, this also opened doors for me to utilize my art and design abilities in the music industry and this helped pay the bills to fund my music making (as well open more doors to new contacts).

At a very young age I realised alot could be accomplished through music.
Meeting people, improving ones own intellect and being great at something were all things I realised that I could possibly achieve by being involved with music.
I realised it would always be something you could improve at aswell, you are never going to get to a point and stop thinking you have done it all, like many things in life there is always something to learn.

I've really always wanted to be a singer, but I think I knew that I wanted to do it as a way of living since I was about 6. That's when I really understood what I was getting into. Ever since then, I've been writing songs, working hard on my voice and instruments, and have been trying to learn a new thing about music every day.

always

Although I started making music when I was 6, since then I've known that I want to make music in my life. I had many other ideas of my future but making music is my first love and that's the way how I want to spend my life - as a composer.

As I have always been fascinated with music I suppose I have always considerd music as a way of life, as music is my life, always have been always will be. And as I have grown up I have even more of a passion for music and it keeps getting strongerall the time.
