When did you realise that making music could be a way of life for you?
When i started getting good at playing the trombone! Its fantastic!
When I really thought about how much experience and patience I had - and that I can be very organised. The last of these is really important. The people I teach guitar to or my band look to me for direction and you can't have direction without organisation.
I knew I would always play music when I was about 9 or 10.
When I was 17.. I had to choose between work and music as I was doing both.. Music won!
Only fairly recently, (as in the past 4 or 5 years), and as long as I could pay my mortgage and provide for my family by doing it.
When I was about 14, my parents bought me a Casio SK1. I was hooked after that.
I think i always knew it could be but did not have the confidence in my own ability until i had spent some time taking lessons and was getting offered gigs. I knew that it would be my way of life when i couldn't get any more holiday time off from my job to do gigs, a decision had to be made and it was the best thing i have ever done.
When I went to college and bumped into the late great big band leader Ken Mackintosh who took me under his wing and got me playing Temor Sax in his big band.
probably when i was around 10, i knew i always wanted to be in the music/theatre industry.
When I started getting offered work regularly.
About 2003. I wanted to be known as a songwriter but started to realize that my main talent was the different styles of guitar I could play.
From my first gig, there was no going back.
When i started my very first band...when i released my first single and album..best feeling!
I cant remember a time when it hasnt been....I think if its in your blood then thats just the way its going to be.
I have always believed in that the music could be "a way of life for me".
The Norfolk Royale, Bornemouth, circa 1990. People started to come back to my spots and bring friends. That's when the wages went up and I quit my [boring] day job. |
