Do you usually attended seminars or coursework to advance your professional work or would you consider yourself a more self-taught person?
I love to attend 10 day workshops whenever I get the chance. When traveling out of state these type of workshop allow me to complete a painting and learn the methods of the instructor truly from start to finish.
I do not watch much TV and spend my evenings pouring over art books and education myself further. So my art education is a combination of being self-taught and enhanced by workshop attendances.
More than being self taught, I AM AN EXPLORER! I delight in searching out new ways to use established software like Photoshop as well as exploring new software packages that extend the way I can create new and innovative digital images. The only times I attend seminars or workshops is when I come across another artist who is also working on the leading edge.
I go to a seminar ifit is really about practical advices, because in general most of the workshops and seminars are about theory.

While I am self-taught in areas, I do regularly attend educational seminars and functions as well as being a member of several professional organizations such as Professional Photographers of Colorado and America.

I am mostly self-taught, but I think every artist really is. I believe anyone can draw or paint or whatever, its just a matter of understanding certain techniques and putting in the time to practice. But I do attend seminars when I can. I also teach art privately as well as at a local college, so I do attend events which are useful to both my career and my students' future. |
