MARKETING
What's your answer to the typical question: does marketing create nonexistent needs?
Yes it brings people hope and an avenue to their dreams
Of course it does. But so does social media interaction (comparing yourself to your virtual friends and their lives). So does media. So does the government.
The roots go a lot deeper than advertising and marketing.
We should start focusing on better education, better cultural education, better social education, money management, how money works - all starting from a young age. If children are taught how advertising and marketing works, about consumerism, about needs, about how bad many people have it, what making a few dollars really takes - then we will have smarter buyers, smarter savers, less shallow development.
My father taught me in basic principles how ads worked, what they did to pull you in - what the euphemisms used were, what euphemisms even were. I always understood when I was being marketed too and I felt a little bit of power because of that. I had some control of how I was being "talked at" because I as able to decide how I received the message.
I'm tempted to answer this with a "YES"—we're all in business to make money, right?
Yes, marketing convinces your customers they they need something that you're selling. And sometimes they really do need it, and sometimes they just want it.
In either case, marketing is what sells most products. If you don't invest in marketing, your competitors will, and they'll put you out of business. Case closed.
It can. I think marketing can help solve problems, but it can also create them.
Yes some marketing does. But it also plays to depper emotional psychological needs that we as humans are sometime unaware of.
Only bad marketing, and these products usually fail.
Yes it often does - after all look at Coca Cola. However I don't consider it ethical to do that.
I'd rather say nonexistent wants.
Marketing looks for ways to fill the needs of owners in ways they may not have considered or that allows them the confidence it is the right decision. |
