What advice would you give to someone who wishes to begin a blog?
Make sure you have a great template to work with that is attractive and easy on the eyes.
Select a nice header that represents who you are and what your content is all about.
Include a nice balance of photos and words to reach all kinds of readers.
Keep your blog positive and motivational so your readers will find value and encouragement from reading your posts.
Don't write long articles - keep to your point. Quality is better than quantity.
Watch your spelling and grammar. Take the time to write well.
Plan to update your blog at a minimum of 3 days per week.
Gadgets are fun for the blogger to play with but can be annoying to readers. Choose your gadgets or widgets wisely.
Avoid using music players that automatically play when the blogger checks in.
Respond to comments by email or on your blog.
Network with other bloggers so people will know your blog is out there. Don't just assume someone will find you, go out and find them!
Do it. What are you waiting for? It's easy, it's free. You don't even have to tell anyone about it until you are comfortable with what you are doing. Reach out, get involved in the blogging community. Visit blogs and comment often!
I have a few:
- Before you start, read other blogs and get a feel for what they are like.
- Then completely forget everything you've read or seen so you can establish a new and distinct voice that will get noticed.
- Prepare for the reality that the rest of the world may not share your high opinion of your blog.
- Don’t think if you build it, they will come. You know that movie where someone built a baseball field and waited for dead folks to turn up and play ball? Blogging isn't like that. Prepare to slog at putting up brilliantly crafted, accurate and to-the-point articles that will make people come
- Pick a subject that you are very interested in.
- Do not loose momentum.
- Be discipline
- Be informed
- Make the Internet your friend.
- Have an online presence
- Invite other bloggers to write for you
Above all, good luck and enjoy!
Don't think setting up a blog is an easy way to make money. It takes a lot of time and effort.
Start with Twitter and Facebook. If you can't get into becoming interested in just talking to people one-on-one like on those two, you don't have a chance of devoting the time and, yes, sometimes "money" to the process.
Know what you want to say. Have a purpose.
Do your research and make sure that five years down the line you're writing about a topic that you have passion for. I'm a wife and mom of six children. A family website is perfect for me, as your passions will be perfect for you to write about!
Self-host! It gives you much more creative freedom and you can personalize your look. Branding is extremely important.
And have a purpose. Blog with intent, not just because. If you are honest and have a clear message with each post, your readers will feel engaged and continue to read.
DO IT. There are to many people who are thinking about tomorrow. Another time to do it, a better time. The first step in creating a blog is the sit down and do it
Give it a go. It is very simple to set one up on Wordpress.com and as long as you have the dedication to regularly update it, even once a week, it can become a very handy and fun hobby. And it's free!
Get started now. Dont expect miracles.
Don't think it is easy. It is bloody hard work and takes up a lot of time and rarely makes a decent amount of money, If you are looking at making quick money think about taking up betting on horses.
select an useful niche for any blog and update it frequently.
Write what you are passionate about, but be reasonable. Don't use it strictly as a platform to complain. Give useful information, opinion and entertainment and you will be a success.
Love that which you (want to) write about.
Do it for the "write" reasons :)
Don't do it just because others are doing it.
Make it original in whatever way you can, that of course will come from your own personality in writing.
Interact with your readers and don't only make it about you (unless it's a blog about "you" of course ;o) |
