What advice would you give to someone who wishes to begin a blog?

Whohub

Blog from your heart and it will be successful.

Read a lot of blogs. If you're trying to be successful, expect to fail a lot. And also expect to totally change what you were planning on doing to begin with.

Why not?

Always be courteous no matter what vitriol are in comments. Have a thick skin because you are going to find people can get pretty angry and passionate over something you write, and they sometimes write comments or counter posts with wording they would not ordinarily use in person.

Be passionate and knowledgeable on what you write. Research, research research. If you are not accurate or don't know what you are writing about, people will pick up on that pretty quickly and drop reading you.

Write about what you are passionate about first and foremost. Include pics, links, videos, etc. Include tags and a social media share button to help people share your posts to social media sites linking back to your blog.

Just do it. You'll love it. It's addicting.

I think most people don't realize how hard it is to do this! We all have to be very dedicated to our blogs and that takes some time out of our day, everyday. So before you start you should really think that, don't start it on a whim. Maybe try talking to other people who do the same thing you would like to try, get some inside info.

Just do it.

Know what you want to blog about, stay true to that goal, and don't worry about how stupid you think you look/sound when you write - there will always be someone out there who likes what you write.

Don't start a blog about something you're only interested in as a passing fancy. If you start it, keep going.

Pick your area of interest, read a lot of other blogs in that area of interest to get a background and to know enough to avoid repetition, and then write in as personal a way as possible. I also think it's nice when people take care to make their site visually beautiful and inviting.

The best advice I could give a new blogger is blog because you are passionate about what you are talking about, be consistent, and be yourself no matter what!

My inspiration, Matt Cerrone of MetsBlog.com, told me to make it my own. Don't follow anyone else. Be unique, and you'll be successful.

Create a blog that you think people will want to come and read. Pick a subject matter or a new approach to a subject that somebody else has done. Be different, be creative, don’t copy what anyone else has done, otherwise you’ll not be unique; you’ll not give your readers a reason to keep coming back for more. Research, research & research your topics, before you post. Use a spelling & grammar checker before you publish, and never post anything that you have not experienced yourself, as a “hear-say” post can get you into a great deal of trouble and above all, be honest.

You can do it! My advice is to go to http://blogger.com and follow the prompts. It's incredibly easy, anyone who can read and type out words on a keyboard, can do it. Other than that, my further advice is to simply hang in there. The more you put into it, the more you'll get out of it.
