I know it sounds incredibly banal, but "if you build it, they will come." It won't be overnight, and might not be for a few months, or even a year, but if you devote yourself to a regular blogging schedule, on topics of interest, and good writing, your blog won't fall through the cracks. However, now that I've built a nice-sized audience, I do alert my readers about updates via Twitter and Facebook, and definitely have a link for an RSS feed of my blog.

We promote our blog by leaving comments on other blog sites and linking our address. Facebook & Twitter also plays a big part in the promotion of our blog. Word of mouth doesn't hurt either. Our friends support us by linking or reposting Siamese Sky on their sites.
Twitter is a bloggers/website owners best friend! Also, forums that are related to our topic is a great place to promo your site.
