How often do you post? Does regular posting of your blog require a lot of effort on your part?
I try to post once a day, although I occasionally miss here and there. If I'm actively managing large teams of volunteers I'll miss a week or more.
I try to post at least a couple of times a week. I have a full time job outside of the blog so it is sometimes challenging to fit everything in but I manage because I love it.
I try and post about 8 articles each weekday, but I also have some contributors who help out, so we usually have between 10 and 15 post each weekday. My posting ritual DOES require a bit of effort. I start by searching for relevant keywords on portfolio sites and Flickr to try and find oddball geeky things relevant to my niche. These finds are original content that mostly winds up being featured in one of Tumblr's tag categories and picked up by other larger blogs. I also spend HOURS scrolling through my RSS feed checking my inbox for press releases and news tips that readers send in.
Since I run a varied interest site, it's hard to find a balance of what kind of things to post and how often. If I post to many toy articles, people who visit the front page for the first time might think we're strictly a toy site. and the same goes for other topics. I try and keep it somewhat staggered if I can help it.
How often I post varies. I work a full time plus some job and have a mother with health problems. Sometimes 60+ hours a week of work, then taking care of her, plus running my own life gets overwhelming and I have to back off on the blogging or skip sleeping altogether
I try to post something new every two weeks, but i do try to retweet or Facebook some posts. It can take effort if I want to post lots of pictures.
I post when I get the urge. Sometimes months pass because I have nothing to say or The Poet has destroyed all of my physical copies and archived my files. It's like being in a coma or having amnesia. A soap opera trope on a show nobody's watching.
Mostly I try to post daily, but sometimes there may be a day or two gap. But to avoid such things, I usually plan what I'd post for the next 2 weeks, then I write for them in my mobile, whenever I find free time. But usually I don't type, I just dictate to my android smartphone.
I keep the number of posts down to a few per year, but some posts are very dense and are edited and expanded over time to include links to other related articles and posts as they become available to support the core message.
Yeah, I try to be helpful on my posts and always try to add a photo. so, it takes time and thought. Probably spend about an hour or so a week blogging.
