|What role does technology play in your creative process?
My first career was that of being a reporter and editor of a small newspaper. That was in the days of the old "Underwood" typewriter. Since that time it has fascinated me to keep up with the advancement of information technology. I have kept myself up-to-speed in the use of the computer, Internet, and ability to build my own web site. Keeping this site updated, blogging, research, employing graphics and design with the use of software keeps my brain "technically" aware. These elements make up a good deal of my creative processes.
not much. I'm pretty basic. I do sometimes take a few reference photos if I'm painting something structured, like buildings, etc., but that's about it.
in the creative process a lot but in the production very little.
I use computers, scanners and drawing tablets quite a lot during the design process, even for paintings. Although I always begin with a pencil and paper, a computer is invaluable for working with prints and for editing images for show, as well as preparing and scaling a draft for a painting.
I think humans are bonded to technology now, no matter how much we may want to resist it. Our image of the world is completely filtered through, and influenced by, the images and messages we recieve through the tv and the internet etc.
As individuals we are constantly remodelling ourselves via the facebook/ myspace interface.. we exist with a running comentary of ourselves, our thoughts and feelings... to the extent that sometimes I think we are no longer living authentic, felt lives.
These concerns are paramount in my practice and I lend off the images I recieve from various 'technological' media sources to compose virtually all my work.
I make use of digital photography as one source for my paintings and i use my computer to upload images, otherwise, it's me drawing and painting.
In addition to being an acoustic musician and a painter, I also am interested in digital photography and podcasts. These technological advances give more variety to our art forms and in addition, we are able to reach a broader audience with easier access to our art.
Technology plays a part in my work via the digtial camera and photoshop. I have been painting for many years before technology came on the scene and now it just makes things easier.
I'm all for simple technology, i.e. paint and brushes.
Technology allows me to expand my audience and do research for my projects without leaving home.
I paint in acrylic as it is less toxic than other paints. I use collage as a medium and include tickets, lists and headlines in my work...
Lately it has played a very large part. I love so many aspects of traditional art but, as I have learned, there are many things one simply can not do traditionally. Digital art also makes for a healthier wallet........
Technology is becoming is an integral part of the documentation process. But it is much more than that over that recently. I have just purchased an apple MacBook, digital camera and camcorder to record my work, events and work on a blogspot whilst at an artists residency. The references have offered an immediacy and a tool that has enhanced the way I work, document and think about my work.
What I do is pretty much an old world craft. However I have found some pretty interesting ways to make things look "aged." I am really particular about things being sanitary so to find a way to recreate that look was a fun challenge. The only technology per se that I really use in my business is the computer.
I use technology to show/share my work and to see others work. I sometimes use it for creative processing e.g. Photoshop but I find my level of skill makes this difficult. I have recently, however, found software that presents my older work in a completely new way and this is inspiring some new ideas and work.
