Using the subway without paying, shoplifting: is there excessive tolerance to these small offenses?
Life is far from perfect and what is shoplifting as an offence compared with huge corporate tax theft or the theft of an entire country's liberty and resources by a superpower? Wrong is wrong but there is a lopsided focus on attacking our fellow common-man for his flaws and ignoring the reasons people resort to petty and more serious crime in order to make it through with a little less stress. Social justice would be a lovely cure for many ills
I like my freedom. I think all people should be free. But that can only happen if we respect eachother. If we respect the system we all take benefits from. It is wrong when some of the people use the system without contributing to it. Like it is wrong that some of the people abuse the system in a legal way to make themselves richer and the others poorer. If it's wrong, it's wrong. If it's right, it's right. And what is wrong for one man, should be wrong for everyone. Wrong should be punished. But of course, what is shoplifting, what is using the subway without paying, compared to so many other crimes that remain unpunished? Some of the biggest criminals are well-respected people in the right suits who take money from the poor in a way that is officially regarded as legal, but is in fact nothing but theft. It happens on a large scale and nothing is done about it.
not really
Shoplifting: The idea that I steal an apple of a loaf of bread to feed myself or my family because I can't afford to buy it. Subway's should be free to begin with, as should ALL public transportation. It's a service provided by usually the state, county, or city, paid for with tax dollars. Why the fuck am I going to shell out MORE money otherwise?
There is and their shouldn't be.
That depends on what color your skin is and how nicely you might be dressed.
I have not noted any particular tolerance to these small offenses.
Stealing is wrong.
Excessive tolerance? I think people who don't have money might need to skirt the system, and it's not my place to judge them. I guess my morality is affected by society-economic boundaries, so be it.
Yes. The lack of integrity in our culture is astounding. |
