How do you distinguish passing fads from mainstays in new trends?
anything that is IT.... is NOT, anything that appears quickly will also depart quickly, slow burn is always a good indicator, where ever a large amount of human effort has been accumulated is always an indication of longevity.

by keeping up on the lates trends by looking on the internet or start my own.
I don't. I use what I like and focus on what will work best for the client. If done right, what was a fad for some will keep working for them.
I stick with the idea that less is more. You can never go wrong with that.
Intuition and may be watching the same idea in different events…
Just try everything, don't be afraid to fail, be afraid not to try.

I dont really use trends. I suppose the closet part of a trend would be the colours. I look at forecast for season colours but other then that i dont use trends in my designs.
Design force, simplicity, usability, user friendly.
I mean every trend passes and stays to a certain extent. It's cyclical, so fads always have a way of coming back, in one incarnation or another.
It's a matter of like and dislike, a matter of time. You can spot good trends but you might fail at it. But not to try is even worse.
I just enjoy doing my designs old and new it's all fun and exciting!!
Another good question. I think what you find is that even passing fads get rehashed. We see it throughout most modern Western society. From fashion to music, to pretty much everything - past decades fads or trends get recycled. Right not it would seem the 80s is very much in vogue.
Design loose of them, you'll create your own style. Sure you'll follow trends, pick the ones you like and ask yourself do I really like e.g. Big Typography. Why not screens are getting bigger, it's more clearly. There are no rules, just ask yourself. You'll get an answer. |
