DESIGN
Up to what point do your designs reflect your personality?
Many of them do, but mostly they reflect something I want to say at the moment, or have a connection with something I'm interested in. Many of my personal pieces involve dance or movement.
I was a very hyper active kid, who grew up to be a slightly less hyper active adult. That is why I do and can do so many things, I never really am sitting still and my brain runs faster than I can type even now. Motion, light, texture, sharpness, contrast, these are all things that are very strong in my personality and the way I look at the world, therefore they dominate my visual style.
I will say 25% of it reflect my personality depending the task
depends on the project: sometimes zero, some times a lot.
In my opinion, a designers are always a part of his/her work. Knowing those values clearly is important so that when you're tackling client's work, you can consciously represent their values (not ignoring your own) in design decisions.
Probably quite a bit reflect my personality, and then the refinements will end up reflecting the client more.
I believe all my designs reflect my aesthetic, but they are to the customers criteria and overall look.
I try to reflect my personality in my designs every time because each and every design I´ve made tells a different story or concept
Concepts are usually very reflective of my style and personality, but once it goes to the Creative Director or has had input and comments from clients, it can start to morph into something else.
On each point
If I possessed a bubbly colorful Betsy Johnson or Jean Paul Gaultier type of personality I am sure our designs would reflect that. However, I am quite the opposite. Chosing a more reserved look and an earth toned palette. We have also always designed our collection so it's not necessarily the foucus of attention. We want our items to blend in and not shout, "look at me."
I would also expand on that and mention that leather is always changing and in a sense changes with your personality. It becomes an extension of you. Your skins oils interact with it and change it's appearance, your daily routines also change its appearance not just in looks but in how it feels. The leather softens, patina's and wears-in over time. Ultimately over its lifetime it embodies a very personal road map of your lifes travels. This connection or extention becomes not unlike your favorite pair of jeans or boots. Once that connnection is made that items becomes reveared.
About 98 % of our designs are part of my own personality.
I think everything we do or create, whether professionally or not, reflects our style or way of doing things.
I try to reflect my client's personality
All my work reflects my personality. This is why I'm hired by my clients. It's very much like my fingerprint. |
