Statistics is one of the courses I teach. However, I have authored even more articles on the use of qualitative (narrative based) research methods. I am very skeptical of the use of parametric techniques and advocate the use of distrubtion free tests, especially for the kind of small samples and skewed or truncated variables I see in clinical research.

Statistics aren't a matter of belief. They're a matter of fact, and sometimes of interpretation.
Handled correctly, they can be a good thing. Far too often, they are manipulated to spin doctor to some end. I always want to know how large a group is, where it came from, what controls there are, how the questions were worded, how the data was collected, and so forth. If those are obviously skewed, any results will be, as well.
Since statistics is a branch of mathematics, where numerical data is crunched into many shapes and forms, what is not to believe? I believe in statistics 100%. I also realize that statistics are like matches. Some are good for lighting campfires. Some are good for lighting cigarettes. They can be used for good or bad, like just about anything else can be. Statistics are very good for selling lies in advertising. They are good for the people making money off the lies, bad for those getting lied to by statistics. Some people use statistics as reason for snagging some of that taxpayer money that government officials haven't spent yet. If you quote statistics well enough, to the right people, sometimes those government money overseers will pass out free money for gathering more statistics, in grant form. I do believe in all of that, because I have seen it all firsthand. It exists. It is real.
Keep in mind that without statistics guys would struggle socially. Statistics are good so men can have something to talk about betweenst themselves, because without sports stats to banter about guys would just stand around and say nothing a lot of the time. However, from time to time statistics inevitably will get stacked against you, telling you you cannot get something you really want. To grasp the brass ring, often one has to go against the statistics.   | | |

I don't believe in statistics. Things are happening all the time if that makes any sense.
Stastics can be tricky.
For people who don't know mathmatics well, they shouldn't use it for decision making.
To believe stastics data, I need to see how they collected data and they interpret data.
Statistics are merely a table set on a certain set of parameters that can easily be manipulated. I took cost accounting twice and realized, I was never going to be able to pass it because I believe it is false.
Statistics are generally bullshit based on the testers belief.
